the title is latin which means Heart's Betrayal.
Hence there was a time when a peasant girl once lived alone on a cliff on the ocean. Her name was Cavea. She had brilliant bright, strawberry red hair with stunning eyes of the lightest brown shade and, light dotted freckles around her nose and cheeks. She also had a slender build, and was muscled but, only ever so slightly from all her work around the house. Her lips were the shade of a freshly plucked pink rose and her tone was a pure as freshly fallen snow, which was shocking against the pallor of her stunning hair. She had been alone since she was eight years old when her parents and sister disappeared without note or trace. It had been eleven years since then but, still she never dwelled to long on it. She had three friends to keep her company named Tre, Dirse, and Monolse, who were swallows. One day as she was chirping with her three friends on the shore when she glimpsed something at the corner of her eye that looked like a something drowning about a mile off shore. Her instincts took over and she dove straight into the water and raced out to it. When she reached it finally, she was shocked to discover two things. One was that the thing was defiantly not drowning, for it had fins, two infact! Two, it was not a thing but some sort of creature that was certainly not human. The strange creature had a head and body belonging to wild, white mustang and, instead of the tail and back legs of a mustang it had the two sea green tails of a siren, strongly muscled and looking awfully powerful. Cavea gasped at the immense sight and nearly drowned herself in exasperation but, the creature swung one of its tails around and supported her. It then looked at her and bellowed, “I am the official Captain of Guard of Poseidon’s. My name is Capricorn and, I have been sent to surface to find the fortune teller’s foretell.” The pronounced Capricorn then turned to a quite baffled Cavea and stated,” And, my fair maiden, are you? You seem awfully lost.” Cavea stared at him for a moment and just as Capricorn was about to repeat himself she said,” Sir, I am um...Cavea, a simple peasant who lives just there”, she points to her home,” on that cliff.” Not even wait to finish her sentence Tre, Monolse, and Dirse came swooping in ready to go in at full attack at Capricorn. Cavea saw them coming in at the last moment and acted quick by splashing a wall of water up and that diverted the three bird’s attack.
Tre came around fast and dived into attack again straight at Capricorn, but Capricorn was no fool and learned quickly so, as Tre came in Capricorn splashed water right at him with his snout. Tre curved up at the last minute and swerved high into the air to where Monolse and Dirse were waiting. They all started to chirp and flutter in frustration and the interceptions to their attack, confused on how and why their Cavea was protecting this beast, this monster. Cavea turned towards them, giving them a horrid scowl, bringing a faint rose colour to her cheeks and deepening the usually delicate shade of her lips. She then turned towards an awfully amused Capricorn, softening her hard expression. Then Capricorn, who was obviously still bemused, started laughing a deep and earth-trembling laugh. His laughter seemed to shake the water around him and roll off the waves. This made the swallows even bitterer at this odd creature before them and, it made Cavea blush a deep crimson. Tre, Dirse, and Monolse all fluttered off in a huff towards shore and Capricorn followed still carefully balancing Cavea on his muscled tail. As, they came close to shore Cavea got off of his tail and started to swim the rest of the short way when she realized half way in that Capricorn had stopped. She looked back and saw him there, just stalling, biding his time. Their eyes caught and she smiled and then beckoned him forward as she reached shore and slowly walked out of the water. Capricorn then started to slowly ease forward, getting closer and closer towards the shore. The closer he got the more he had to drag his enormous tail, soon he reached the first part of shore and that’s when he began to change. His two tails of a siren started shifting and shortening becoming thinner and started to grow fur, they slowly faded from a sea green to a snow white, and then he was no longer dragging them but walking upon them. He also grew a beautiful long tail that wired about with the ocean breeze. His horse head began to extend and morph, taking on a new shape, and becoming barer and barer. He sprouted the upper extremities of a human and then a human head his skin turning to the fleshy pink colour that is human flesh. His beautiful, long main shortened to the top of his head, only leaving a thin white line to show where it used to be. His hair now shone as a brilliant white blond, his eyes glistened as bright as a clear summer’s day, his muscles rippled around his body like an intricately wrapped ribbon. Cavea stared, shocked and amazed, unsure of what to do, but she couldn’t take her eyes away from him.
Capricorn galloped up along side of her and with one swift movement he swooped her up onto his back and he rode down the beach towards the village. The three swallows who had been watching this entire scenario quickly followed after the galloping two as they headed into town. Cavea and Capricorn spent their time together sharing their stories, and comparing adventures with each other. During that time Cavea found out the true reason as of why Capricorn was here. Approximately 338 years ago an old dying fortune teller foretold that a human mortal from the surface would arise around this time and that this human would once again tie the bonds between Earth and Sea. At first, Cavea thought this was silly until she learned that the ties haven’t been renowned for nearly three millennia, and that last human mortal fell in love with Poseidon and was reining queen for nearly two and a half million years and then she died tragically and when the fortune teller foretold this last prophecy everyone expects it to be the next queen of the Seas. By day Cavea went out searching, with her three friends in tow, for this mysterious sea-loving mortal, but found none.
By night though, Cavea found herself entranced by all of the stories Capricorn could tell of his three thousand immortal years. At the other end of this rainbow though, sat a growing storm cloud, three in fact. Dirse, Monolse, and Tre were becoming heart-ridden, jealous, and bitter. They felt as if that thing of a creature, Capricorn, should be dumped back into the sea where he belongs and to never come up again so that he would leave Cavea alone. All three swallows loved Cavea dearly, although she never expected in the slightest. Often, late at night they would, amongst themselves, devise devious plans to get ride of Capricorn, and how the three of them would go to the witch of Ezula, three villages and a river away, and have her turn them into handsome mortal men and how they would all court the lovely Cavea. In their own minds though, hidden away from the others, they did not want to share their Cavea but, instead to keep her for themselves and how the individually planned to kill the other two. By the third week of searching Cavea was exhausted and she wished to do it no more. She often said,” Your mortal, she is gone, or dead but, surely not here.” Capricorn felt her emptiness and often held sympathy for her and all he could do was hold her and tell her all he knew to ease her mind and her worries. The third day after the third week of searching, Capricorn stopped Cavea before she went out again and questioned her,” Cavea,” he pronounced her name as if it was the sweetest love poem his ears had tasted,” dear little birdcage,” he called her this because in Latin Cavea means birdcage,” why, do you choose to live by the sea, every land dweller we have come across respect and visit the sea but, none dare ever stay so, why do you darling Cavea, why?” Her cheeks flushed with colour and she turned to gaze into his clear blue eyes and sighed as she stroked his face and said,” Oh Capricorn, do you not see? I love the sea. Born of land and sun and moon am I but my heart remains with the sea.” “I sometimes feel,” she added,” as if I was made for the sea but was placed in the wrong body at birth.” Capricorn felt his heart skip a beat. A huge smile broke across his face before he even realized it and he was trotting with excitement. Cavea giggled as she watched his little turn about both curious and oddly amused at this sudden act. “Oh Cavea”, he cried out, “You are what we have been searching for; you have the ability to tie the bonds of Earth and Sea.” He then sat down with such swiftness and grace that Cavea, at first, thought he had collapsed. As she knelt beside him, she was confused by his expression. It was crossed between pain, joy, and confusion, which the latter well matched her own. He pulled her close and explained as he confided in her,” Cavea, I am so lost. I do not understand, I mean I do, I know for sure you are her but, I am in love with you Cavea. That is right were I become lost,” he stands,” I thought you were supposed to be Poseidon’s not mine. I mean, what am I dear darling? I am nothing but a guard. It is not right for the happy ending to be mine, I cannot be apart of this great tapestry of fate, I am a pawn to small for the board.” He started pacing when Cavea raised herself up to him and took his hands in hers. She reached on her tip toes and gracefully kissed him. Her soft, pink lips touched to his stained blue. She kissed him gently and he was quiet with shock, and then he embraced her closer, holding her tightly pressed to him, afraid that she would disappear the moment he let her go. He set her down, still holding her in a light embrace, her fingers tracing his throat. She gazed up at him with a dreamy look in her eye and she stated simply,” You’re wrong you know.” His eyes questioned her. “Yes, I do agree that I am the human mortal but, you are not nothing. Just a guard? Preposterous. You are the Captain of the Guards of Poseidon. You alone are in charge of the safety of one of the most important gods. You are no small pawn, my love. No. You are the brave and shining knight, ready for battle at the drop of a flag, braver than any other alive. The game would be lost without you. I would be lost without you. I love you Capricorn.” His face enlightened with sudden understanding, a huge smile of triumph across his face. The two lovers wrapped each other into another even more passionate embrace, afraid to let go and face the uncertain future ahead. Dirse just happened to witness the entire scene, play-by-play. He nearly fell off his perch; his anger and jealousy were boiling hot inside him. He soared over to Monolse and Tre and told them in detail what had just occurred. When Dirse was finished the blood was hot in each of the swallows as they flew toward Ezula at racing speed. Cavea stretched her arms out wide and felt the wind whip her brilliant blue dress fold back against herself, feeling the soft silk brush against her skin. Her hair was whipping about behind her, seemingly of their own accord in a gathering of graceful movements, which made it seem like a dance against the wind as she rode on the back of her galloping centaur. He jumped over bridges and rocks and rotting trees and Cavea laughed, throwing her head back and feeling the sunshine soak into her skin as she let all her worries and cares slip away. They were on their way back to the Sea to descend, to announce. Just as they were about to reach shore three immense figures swooped in front of them, obscuring their way. Cavea was angered at first at the thought of this mere obstacle blocking her from the safety and happiness of the Sea. That is until she recognized the wing colours, browns, greens, purples, oranges, and blues. Her shock and frustration mingled all onto one. “Tre, Dirse, Monolse,”she stated defiantly,” get out of our way.” Monolse was the first to step up, as he did this he cackled aloud, echoing off the trees behind them. “Cavea, doll”, he cooed. Tre stepped up,” Step away from the evil beast Cavea and come with...” “Us”, Dirse finished for him. Cavea cocked her head to the side and even though she tried her hardest to resist, her body went forward. One step after another, she was slowly coming closer. She could not understand, what was her body doing? Why was it not listening to her? Through tear touched eyes she looked towards the changed swallows, they were men. Full bodied, strictly muscled, great coloured swallow wings, scorned face, and even though she could not see it through the flesh, she felt it. Their hearts were scorched, by love, but burnt to crisps but the dark magic. Then she spotted it, Tre. He was holding a diamond on a chain circling it above his right palm, this, this was what was controlling her, she knew she had to stop them but, how? Capricorn stared dazed and confused at the advancing Cavea. Had that one simple sentence they nearly spat out completely changed her heart completely? Watching his love close the distance between him and these monsters, he questioned if what she had said was really true. Did she really love him or was she lying and she is actually the same, as those monsters. He could not decide, his heart lay like a stone in his chest, heavy and hardening. Just when he thought he was about to collapse from his heart sinking him down into endless heartache, he saw her strawberry hair flicker and his head immediately snapped up like instinct. Look at him, that’s what she had to do. She tested it she could move her head freely. She turned her head sharply, just as she was about to reach the three whom she no longer recognized as her old friends, making sure her hair would flip outward to catch his eye. As soon as he looked up their eyes met and Cavea let the tears roll, hot down her cheeks. His eyes widened in horror and she muttered all the voice she could control and very softly said, “help.” Her voice was small and she was afraid it wouldn’t reach him. When the tears fell from her soft eyes to her delicate cheeks, Capricorn felt the tears land on his heart melting the stone away. To see such an angel as she in pain and tearing made his whole body shake in horror that these creatures would hurt an angel in such a way that his blood rise high and boiled red hot. And when his perfect angel pleaded to him for help, it was quiet and yet her words hit him like a hot wave and he lost all control. He charged before he knew what he was doing and ran right on top of Monolse’s wings smashing the bones to bits. The bird man cried out in shrieking pain thrusting his legs about, not even daring to twitch his arms. Capricorn seemed to be seeing red like a pulsation through his vision. Tre and Dirse set to flight but not before Capricorn caught them both by a leg and threw them to the ground. Tre’s diamond was thrown out of his hand when he hit ground breaking the spell on Cavea. Her legs gave out at first from loss of control and numbness. She quickly dragged herself out of the way of the heated fight and partially watched in horror as she looked for something to throw. Capricorn and Dirse were brawling on the ground as Tre was looking for the diamond. Dirse then yelled out to Tre,” The diamond, get the diamond you mongrel!”Tre spotted it at the same time Cavea did. They caught each others eye for less than a moment then Tre was up and racing for it. As he about to grab it Cavea had found a pine cone and threw it as hard as she could straight for his head, it hit him with brute force right above the ear, sending him stumbling to the side. In that time Cavea gathered all her strength and rushed for the diamond, just as she was about to snatch it Tre grasped the chain and yanked it out of her grip.
Her head snapped up and with bared teeth she tackled him to the ground and slammed his head against the ground at the same time she bit the skin right above the jugular and as hard as she could she tore straight up ripping apart his flesh and exposing his veins and blood, she bit again tearing the hole wider in his throat. He tried to let out a scream but choked on his own blood and the only noise he made was a gargled choking. Cavea grabbed the diamond and chain and stuck it down her brazier where it could be kept safe and out of sight. She rushed over to where Capricorn had pinned Dirse with his front hooves and was pressing down. Cavea sat on Monolse’s wings hearing him yelp in pain, she gave him no second thought. She watched as Capricorn stamped on Dirse’s chest, hearing his ribs crack under the pressure, she watched as he struggled for breathe and then as Capricorn gave the final push she watched his lungs collapse, his breathe give out, and his eyes roll to the back of his head. She turned to Monolse who was whimpering in pain and she took the largest stone near by and struck as hard as she could on the head. Capricorn turned towards Cavea as she turned to look up at him he smiled, simple but victorious as he wiped the blood from her lips. He held her close and she grasped him with all her remaining will. “I love you no matter what Capricorn”, she murmured through her hot, tear-stinged eyes. He put one hand under her chin and gently lifted her head, she looked at him and he wiped a fallen tear from her eye and said, “I will always love you Cavea.” He lifted her chin a little higher and he bent down to kiss her. Their kiss burned like a white fire, passionate and ever lasting, they kissed, surrounded by the mangled and blooded corpses of jealous ridden bird men. They embraced and they loved. Cavea climbed onto his back and held onto his human waist laying her head between his bare shoulder blades and felt the ocean spray wash over her as they ran along the beach. He faced the vast ocean just as the sun was at its golden peak in the sky. He turned his head to her and watched as her hair blazed like fire, her eyes like lit matches, she smiled, the most radiant and infectious smiles of them all. “You ready”, he asked. She replied, “As I’ll ever be.” He smiled bright and faced forward, Cavea leaned forward on his back pressing closer to him, and she wrapped her hand across his chest and laid her chin on his shoulder. He touched her hands and held onto them tight as he walked into the ever-descending ocean, with her on his back they rode on till you could see them no more.
